LUCKY HUMAN
It is amazing how lucky a human being really is. None of us really understand
how lucky we are. If you live to eighty years old consider yourself super lucky.
If you see one-hundred years call yourself one of the luckiest human’s in the
world. Just think about it. We have so many things against us. Everyday and
every minute of our lives we face death. We don’t think about it because that’s
life. We just do our best and we fight on but when you really think about we are
all miracles. Every one of us who survives another day.
I was having a bad day a few weeks back (actually I have a bad day every day)
and I was listening to all these bad things going on in the news. Who murdered
who and what stormed killed how many people and how many teens were killed in a
car accident, gas is too high, the US economy is crashing, we’re all gonna die,
and in that same week I had three family members face medical problems that
could have been deadly. It all hit me in one swoop. My God we are so unsafe. I
could get in my truck to drive home and my life could end on the highway. I
could feel sick and go into the doctor only to find out I have cancer. A UFO
full of Aliens could come crashing through my roof and fry my ass in a deep
fryer. I could get bitten by a poisonous snake and die. You could breath in
poisonous mold or choke on an apple core. As human beings we have so much
against us.
It really is amazing. Everyday we face death. The fact that we can go to sleep
at night unharmed and wake up to face it all again is a true miracle. We take
advantage of that fact and that’s good. It’s better if we do and not think about
it but we should feel lucky and live each day as if it really is a miracle.
Think about it. In one day you could find out you have cancer, be bitten by a
spider, snake attack, wild animal, car accident, hit and run, knife wound,
drown, stabbed, tornado, hurricane, lightning, the flu, bad fall, murder, child
birth, choking, poisoning, and after we escape all that we could be
electrocuted, in a train crash, plane crash (although the least likely),
carpentry accident, suffocation, bleed to death, and even killed by falling
debris from the sky. Yet for those of us who escape it and fight it off we are
the luckiest people in the world. We should be so thankful when we go to sleep
at night because our lives were sparred.
I think instead of being afraid we should be cautious however we should also be
thankful. We are walking talking miracles. The oldest among us are downright
amazing. They have made it through all of that and yet they live on and many go
well into their hundreds healthy until their bodies are just to old to go on. I
know about depression and sadness. I have faced death before and have lost
people like many others have and when I think about it I really do feel lucky.
Now I am not happy with the direction my life is going right now and I think a
big part of that is that I have been lucky in health and have the opportunity to
live each day to the fullest and yet I don’t. I am trying but failing at it.
Perhaps that is why I write this. To show how lucky we are and to keep telling
myself that. Each day we should tell those who are important to us how we feel
about them. They could be gone tomorrow. Leading people on and allowing them to
believe things that may not be true or even allow them wonder what you feel is
just wrong. That person will face death tomorrow just as you will. We may not
know it but we all do. Unfortunately as we all know death will strike and how
sad it will be if we had to go through the rest of our days knowing that we
never said what we wanted to say to them. Tell them the truth and tell them how
you feel. Appreciate your family always. Keep them close to your heart. For your
wife or husband make sure you don’t go to bed angry. Talk before you sleep, let
it all out. Every dirty detail, every little thing that bothers you. When your
eyes close you go to sleep in peace. If you are not in same room pick up the
phone. Get all your aggravations out whether it’s about work, the kids, your bad
day, or each other. Get it out of your system. You may not solve any problems
but at least it’s not kept inside. Think about it. How do you feel after a good
talk? Better right? You are energized. You are little closer to being at peace.
So do it before bed. If you have no one to talk to then write it down. After all
when you make it through the night and wake up the next morning you have just
become another miracle. You made it!
There is so much against us and yet we fight on. We live each day and go to
next. We beat cancer only to face something else. We are in a near deadly car
accident only to be bitten by a spider. Yet we go on. I feel lucky when I think
about it. Everyday we look for hope and pray for a miracle. None us realize that
the true miracle is that we breath. That we wake up the next day and do it
again. Many are not so lucky. We need to embrace our luck while we have it. I
use to think celebrating a birthday was nonsense. Big deal you are another year
older. I’d rather be another year younger. Now maybe what we are really
celebrating is the fact that you have made it through another year. That we are
celebrating the continuos miracle that is your life. You dodged death and when
you bite into that cake know what a miracle you are. We truly are lucky humans
and we need to appreciate that no matter what your age is and remember it for
every single day of our life.
